Prime Video Unveils 'Uppu Kappurambu' Trailer: A Quirky Satire Starring Keerthy Suresh and Suhas

Prime Video, India’s most beloved entertainment destination, today launched the official trailer for its second Telugu Original Movie, 'Uppu Kappurambu.' This sharp and satirical comedy, starring National Award-winning actor Keerthy Suresh and Suhas, is set in a fictional South Indian village grappling with an unusual and humorous crisis: a severe shortage of burial plots due to bureaucratic oversights. The film is set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video on July 4th, streaming globally in Telugu with dubs in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada, and subtitles in 12 languages, including English.

Produced by Radhika Lavu under the banner of Ellanar Films Pvt Ltd, 'Uppu Kappurambu' is directed by Ani I.V. Sasi and written by Vasanth Maringanti. The stellar ensemble cast also features Babu Mohan, Shatru, and Talluri Rameshwari in pivotal roles, promising a vibrant portrayal of rural life and its unique challenges.

Set in the early 1990s, 'Uppu Kappurambu' unfolds in Chitti Jayapuram, a seemingly quiet village facing a bizarre problem: they've run out of space to bury the dead. The trailer introduces Apoorva (Keerthy Suresh), the newly appointed, idealistic village head, who immediately faces ridicule from locals uncomfortable with a woman in power. Determined to rectify the situation, she seeks the help of Chinna (Suhas), the eccentric graveyard caretaker whose own motives spark a chain of unintended chaos.

The trailer itself is a rollercoaster of wit, humor, and emotion, offering a sneak peek into a world where social satire meets unexpected warmth and disarray. From a hilarious lucky draw system for booking graveyard slots to escalating village drama, 'Uppu Kappurambu' promises a lighthearted take on a very real societal issue.

Keerthy Suresh expressed her enthusiasm for the project: "What drew me to 'Uppu Kappurambu' was its unique blend of satire and heart. Apoorva is a refreshingly different character. She’s idealistic, determined, and a little out of her depth. It was an absolute joy to bring her character to life, especially in a world so rooted in our rural culture. The film uses humor and local flavor to spotlight something serious, and that’s what makes it hit home. That’s also what moved me, and now, I can’t wait for audiences to experience this world on Prime Video."

Suhas shared his experience playing his character: "Playing Chinna was unlike anything I’ve done before. He’s a simple guy caught in a very odd and layered situation. The trailer beautifully captures the tone of the film. It’s quirky, emotional, and full of surprises. What I love about 'Uppu Kappurambu' the most is that it never tries to be preachy. The trailer is just a peek; there’s a lot more madness and emotion waiting to be discovered, and I’m really excited for audiences around the world to witness it on Prime Video."

Director Ani I.V. Sasi also articulated his vision for the film: "Set against the quirky and chaotic backdrop of rural life in the '90s, it uses satire and humor to explore how ordinary people navigate extraordinary situations with limited means but an unbreakable spirit. We wanted it to be something that deals with very serious issues in society but in a very silly and cartoonish way. This film is a sincere attempt to blend comedy with meaningful commentary, brought to life by an incredible cast and crew. I’m excited about its launch on Prime Video, which will help this unique, rooted story connect with audiences around the world.”

'Uppu Kappurambu' is poised to offer a fresh and engaging cinematic experience, delivering laughter and subtle commentary on everyday life.
