Sridevi Vijay Kumar, who stars as one of the female leads in Nara Rohit's 20th film, 'Sundarakanda,' shared her excitement about the project at a recent press meet. The film, which also stars Vruthi Vaghani and is directed by newcomer Venkatesh Nimmalapudi, has generated a strong buzz with its promotional content and is set to release on August 27th.
A Meaningful Comeback and a Strong Role
Sridevi expressed her happiness about her return to the big screen. "I'm very happy to be back. Every actor wants to do a good, strong character, and that's exactly what I'm doing in this film. I've been receiving great appreciation from all sides. As an audience member, I genuinely liked the film, and the output is amazing. It's very fresh content, and everyone will enjoy watching it in theaters."
She explained that her break from cinema was due to her marriage and the birth of her daughter. "My family had planned my marriage while I was still working as a heroine. After getting married and having my daughter, I took a break from films. It's very exciting to see myself on screen again after so many years. My daughter is older now, and I have more opportunities to do films."
Working with a New Team and a Big Star
Speaking about her role in 'Sundarakanda', she mentioned her initial surprise. "When the director narrated the story, I was shocked because it was such a fresh script. I asked for some time to think, but he was so confident that he didn't give me much time. He directed it exactly as he narrated, and the film has turned out very well. My character has many different emotions and is very strong. All the female characters in this film are strong. It was also a memorable experience to wear a school uniform for the film; I took many photos to keep as a souvenir. I have never done a character like this before."
On working with the lead actor, she said, "Nara Rohit is a person I have known for a long time. He is very cool and a very good person. It was a pleasure working with him. Even though this is director Venkatesh's first film, he directed it with the experience of a seasoned filmmaker. His vision is very clear, and he knows exactly what he wants."
Friendship with Prabhas and Future Plans
Sridevi also spoke about her friendship with Prabhas, with whom she was launched in the film Eeswar. "Our friendship is still the same. Prabhas has become a huge star now, but there's no change in him. He still laughs and talks like a child. We all knew he would be a big superstar during the time of Eeswar. He has become an even bigger star than we imagined, which is truly a blessing."
Looking ahead, she said she is open to doing all kinds of roles. "I want to do strong characters with good importance in the story."
