Director Saailu Kaampati is set to deliver an authentic Telugu love drama with Raju Weds Rambai, starring Akhil and Tejaswini in the lead roles. Produced by ETV Win Originals, and presented by Dr. Nageshwar Rao Pujari under the Dolamukhi Subaltern Films and Monsoons Tales banners, the film opens in theaters on November 21, distributed by Vamsi Nandipati Entertainments and Bunny Vas Works.

A native of Warangal, director Sailu’s passion for cinema began in childhood with movies like 16 Teens and Sampangi. Inspired by the impact directors and technicians have on storytelling, Sailu eventually moved from a tech career to filmmaking, determined to tell stories that reflected the soul of his region. After working with talents like Venu Udugula and Srikanth Addala, Sailu crafted a heartfelt script rooted in real-life events. When he narrated the story of Raju Weds Rambai to Venu Udugula, the response was so positive that the film was quickly greenlit—eventually becoming part of the ETV Win Originals lineup.

Raju Weds Rambai is not an honor killing film, but it does dwell in a similar emotional territory. The narrative draws inspiration from a true story Sailu heard as a child—an incident that unfolded in 2004. With the affected family's permission, but desire for privacy, the film explores the journey of Raju, who dreams of marrying Rambai and scribbles “Raju Weds Rambai” everywhere. The emotional twists and fate that await the couple are revealed on screen.

Casting was a careful process: Akhil, also from Warangal, was chosen for his authentic fit to the character, and Tejaswini eventually joined as the female lead. For Rambai’s father—a role key to the story’s tension—Chaitanya Jonnalagadda was cast, delivering a layered performance as a father with a disability after in-depth workshops.

Production faced unexpected hurdles, including heavy floods that delayed shooting in the main village location. Despite local superstitions and logistical setbacks, the team persisted, eventually completing filming thanks to the patience and support of the villagers.

Saailu honed the screenplay and structure under Venu Udugula’s mentorship, allowing him to capture the raw, emotional core of the story without sacrificing his unique directorial style.

Integral to the project is the evocative music by Suresh Bobbili, which has been praised by both the film’s creative team and audiences. The team is unanimous in their confidence, believing the film will resonate thanks to its potent storytelling, rooted characters, and the emotional reality that underpins every frame. Producers Venu Udugula, Bunny Vas, and Vamsi Nandipati have commended the film’s authenticity. Saailu also hinted that work on his next script is already underway and will soon be revealed.
