Shakunthalam is a movie directed by Gunasekhar starring Samantha in the lead role. Those who have seen the movie seem to be very disappointed. Some feel that Samantha does not suit the role of Shakuntala. It is claimed that the movie would have been different if there was a heroine like Anushka in the role of Sakunthalam.
Along with Samantha, the graphics in the movie are also of poor quality. Moreover, the battle scenes are also said to be funny. Gunasekhar is a talented director but his magic did not work in the case of Sakunthalam. Along with the casting, it seems that there are many mistakes in the making of the film. It is said that this may have been done to wrap up the project within a planned budget.
If the film had more budget and proper casting, the film would have been better. Samantha's effort in the movie has been seen but for some reason it failed to connect with the audience. As the Dasara buzz is almost over, there is no film competing for another week. Sakunthalam got a solo release which is now a good chance that is being missed.
The director's last outing, Rudrama Devi, 7 years ago too was a dampener, along with Varudu before that. The mixed reviews are leading to a discussion whether the director joined the outdated list.
