On Monday, producer Anil Sunkara declared 'Agent' as a blunder. One particular line from his statement has gone viral, sparking debates. "We went ahead without a bound script," Sunkara wrote.
The line is a direct criticism of director Surender Reddy and story-writer Vakkantham Vamsi. In a way, the producer was actually trying to save Akhil Akkineni from any sort of criticism.
While 'Agent' is bad in terms of writing and execution, there is little doubt that Akhil is a major reason for its failure. He couldn't sell the character and appeared to be going overboard in the film. Akhil is the prime reason why 'Agent' is a disaster. The bad script should come next.
Akkineni Nagarjuna probably wanted to manage public perceptions at a time when Netizens are trolling his son like crazy. He might have requested Sunkara to put the blame on the writing department and director.
