'RX 100' hero faces competition from 'Hostel Boys' this August

Kartikeya Gummakonda badly needs to score a box-office hit. His dramedy, 'Bedurulanka 2012', is slated to hit the screens on August 25. Directed by newcomer Clax, the film would have enjoyed a solo release in the last week of this month but for a sudden decision by Annapurna Studios and Chai Bisket Films to release the Telugu-dubbed version of an acclaimed Kannada film.

We are talking about the Sandalwood film 'Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare' being released as 'Hostel Boys' in Telugu on August 26. The film, co-starring Prajwal BP, Manjunath Nayaka, and Rakesh Rajkumar, has done very well in Kannada. Chai Bisket Films, which recently made 'Writer Padmabhushan' and 'Mem Famous', enjoys a brand value of its own. Since it is coming out with the black comedy, a section of exhibitors are expected to evince interest in the dubbed film.

Interestingly, both films have been described as insanely fun movies. 'Bedurulanka 2012' is a quirky comedy with a social message. 'Hostel Boys' is a black comedy with twists.
