'2018' is India's official Oscar entry!

'2018', the Malayalam movie based on the 2018 Kerala floods, is India's nomination for Oscars 2024. Helmed by Jude Anthany Joseph, '2018' will compete with nominations from other countries. Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali and others played different parts in the movie.

As always, the choice is likely to create some noise this time around as well. Last time, there was uproar when 'RRR' was snubbed by the Film Federation of India. Not choosing 'RRR' was shocking also because, eventually, the National Awards jury feted it with six National Awards. But the same movie was not considered worthy of an Oscar entry by the FFI.

The Telugu audience would have loved 'Balagam' to be sent as the official entry by India. The fact of the matter is that Telugu films are rarely seen as Oscar-worthy by the FFI.

'2018' created a tsunami of collections at the box office upon its release earlier this year. Its Telugu-dubbed version, presented by Allu Aravind, didn't rake in good numbers.

"This isn't the story of extraordinary people; this is the story of, and tribute to, ordinary people who became extraordinary because of their willingness to risk their lives for total strangers," The Week reviewed upon the release of '2018'.
