On January 17th, 2025, director Vijay Yelakanti and leading lady Raima Sen graced the JIFF ceremony to receive the coveted award.

A Story that Resonates

Expressing her elation, Raima Sen shared, "I always knew that Maa Kaali had the potential to deeply resonate with audiences. Director Vijay Yelakanti added, "Receiving the Best Political Film award for Maa Kaali is incredibly encouraging. It demonstrates that audiences are eager to engage with important and timely narratives. This recognition from JIFF will inspire filmmakers to create films that spark conversation and drive positive change."

Unveiling Untold Chapters of History

Maa Kaali is a powerful film that delves into the erased chapters of Indian history, specifically focusing on the untold stories of Bengal. With its compelling narrative and impactful performances, the film sheds light on the gruesome realities of socio-political turmoil that continue to plague the nation.

The film highlights the brutal massacres in Calcutta and Noakhali (present-day India and Bangladesh), exposing the truth behind the Direct Action Day that ultimately led to the partition of India. Maa Kaali's socio-political relevance makes it a significant film for our times, depicting the persecution of Hindus and the communal unrest in Bengal from 1946 to the present day. It also underscores the importance of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the need for its implementation.

A Pan-Indian Cinematic Experience

Written and directed by Vijay Yelakanti, Maa Kaali is produced by TG Vishwa Prasad and TG Krithi Prasad and presented by the makers of the acclaimed film Karthikeya 2, People Media Factory. Shot in Hindi, the film will also be released in Bengali and Telugu, offering a pan-Indian cinematic experience. Maa Kaali is slated for a theatrical release in 2025.
