The Puthalapattu assembly constituency in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh is one of the strongholds of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSR Congress.
Coming to the electoral trends here in 2024, YSRCP candidate M. Sunil Kumar holds an individual image in the segment. However, the incumbent MLA, facing allegations, has been denied a ticket by the party, leading to their backing of M. Sunil Kumar.
The presence of the current MLA contesting from the Congress is a significant disadvantage for the YSRCP, potentially splitting the vote bank. Nevertheless, the YSRCP enjoys a strong vote bank in this segment, with YS Jagan's image and party support remaining intact.
TDP candidate Kalikiri Murali Mohan, a journalist, has established strong local ties within the segment. Supported by figures like Amarnath Reddy, he stands to benefit from allegations against the current and previous MLAs, potentially gaining votes from those dissatisfied with the current government.
But despite the anti incumbency left from the previous candidate, Puthalapattu is still firmly with the YSR Congress camp and this could well be the deciding factor in favour of YCP’s Sunil.
