According to the reports, the story of Jonnagiri adds to the legacy of diamond exploration in Andhra Pradesh, known as the Diamond Zone of AP. With the pre-monsoon rains heralding the season, areas like Tuggali, Maddikera, and nearby mandals in Kurnool witness a surge in diamond hunting activity. This region, including districts like Anantapur, Kadapa, and Kurnool, boasts significant diamond resources, identified through projects like the National Diamond Project of the 1980s.
Notable discoveries from the past has also made people search for diamonds vigorously. Earlier including a farmer's ₹2 crore find in Basinepalli, Kurnool, in 2023, and past gems sold for lakhs.
