Netizens delve into 'Mahatma Gandhi murdered his wife' accusation

"Mahatma Gandhi murdered his wife Kasturba by denying her Penicillin when she was diagnosed with Pneumonia, a terminal illness." Have you heard anybody say it in the past few days? If you are an active Twitter user, you would have encountered columnist and scientist Anand Ranganathan saying it.

As per Ranganathan, historical evidence says that Gandhi didn't want his wife to be injected with Penicillin when she was on her deathbed. The Father of the Nation wanted her to be cured with the help of prayers. He filled her room with his followers, who sang devotional songs. A day later, Kasturba died a painful death.

In her final hours, Gandhi fought with his son Devadas when the latter arranged Penicillin after much struggle in those days of infrastructural backwardness.

However, Gandhi didn't mind taking medicine when he was diagnosed with Malaria. "Each of MK Gandhi’s principles should be scrutinized. Most of them are delusions of moral grandeur and suicidal," wrote journalist Abhijit Majumder.

Netizens, who have come to know the truth for the first time, are expressing dismay. They are of the view that the truth makes Gandhi a pseudo Mahatma.
