Thalapathy Vijay makes a mistake with very first political stance

Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay, who announced the formation of a political outfit named Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) recently, remained mum on all political developments for weeks. He broke his silence on Monday night hours after the Modi government announced the implementation of the contentious CAA, 2019.

In a statement, here is what Vijay's party said: “It is not acceptable to implement any law like the Indian Citizenship Amendment Act in an environment where all citizens of the country live with social harmony. The leaders should ensure that this law does not get implemented in TN."

This is laughable for a reason. Citizenship is a Union subject as per the Constitution of India. The Tamil Nadu government, like all State governments in the country, has no say in its implementation. Only the Centre can implement citizenship rules. As such, Vijay is wrong in dreaming about influencing the state government against implementing the provisions of the CAA.
