Telangana sets another national record, this time in green cover

On Sunday, KT Rama Rao, the state's IT minister, discussed a number of factors that have helped Telangana lead the nation in environmental protection. Telangana, according to him, has once again established itself as a national model.

Telangana ranked first, according to a report published by the Centre for Science and Environment on World Environment Day. According to KTR, the agency has taken into account many of Telangana's environmentally friendly initiatives, including afforestation and municipal garbage management, which helped the state win first place in the nation.

KTR expressed his satisfaction at receiving national distinction in the environmental field in a statement that was made public on Sunday. In addition to other healthy initiatives by the state, he thanked the Haritha Haram programme, which the state's Chief Minister KCR calls his other kid, for this novel accolade received by the state. The Telangana state residents who helped Haritha Haram and other government programmes succeed were thanked by the minister.

He said that in order to restore the depleted forests for future generations and raise the state's green cover from 22% to 33%, the state administration had launched the Haritha Haram programme. In the past nine years, 273 million saplings have been planted. As a result, the state's forest area, which was 19,854 square kilometres in 2015–16, has increased to 26,969 square kilometres in 2023. He said that forests cover 24.06 percent of Telangana's land area. According to the Forest Survey of India report, Telangana's reforestation has improved the state's green cover by 7.70%. A total of 15,000 nurseries, more than 194,000 village nature forests, and 2,725 Brihat village nature forests have been built throughout the state, in addition to one nursery in each village. At a cost of Rs. 700 crore, he claimed that 180 urban forest parks had been established. He claimed that Haritha Haram was the reason why Hyderabad was named the World Tree City twice.

He said that Hyderabad ranks second in the nation for trash to energy. According to him, just 74 MW of solar energy was produced in the state in 2014, when it was founded, but thanks to exceptional steps implemented by the Telangana administration, 5,865 MW of solar energy is now produced there. The government's seriousness can be seen by the fact that it ranks second in the nation for solar generation.
