Getting into institutions like IIT, BITS, and NIIT is everyone’s dream. These institutes are considered the most prestigious in the country, and many intellectuals have graduated from them. Students work pretty hard to get admission into these. But what if we tell you that Rs 12 lakh is all that you need to get admission into BITS Pilani? Yes, you heard it right! A sting operation conducted by a reporter for Career360 revealed that one could secure admission into Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani by paying Rs 12 lakh!
The Career360 reporter contacted agents claiming she is looking for an admission for her daughter in the institute, and all three "agents" she spoke with said they'll choose the centre at the time the slot is reserved, handle the candidate's BITSAT exam through "backend" wrangling, and guarantee them a spot at one of the three BITS campuses—Pilani, Hyderabad, or Goa. They indicated in separate, overheard phone conversations and WhatsApp discussions that the college and the course may determine the ultimate pricing, according to the career-focused portal.
According to an article published in the Deccan Chronicle, one agent has quoted Rs 20 lakh, while the others quote Rs 18 lakh and Rs 12 lakh. And these were to be paid in post-dated checks to assist the Career360 reporter's daughter in passing the test.
They apparently hire a proxy to answer the question paper at testing locations.
However, none of the statements made by these agencies in this respect could be independently verified by Careers360 or the Deccan Chronicle.
Meanwhile, the BITS organisation filed a police complaint against the exam-fixing agents in response to the exposure. " We have reported this to the police and are keeping a close eye on the entire examination procedure. BITS group vice-chancellor V Ramgopal Rao stated, "I want everyone to be extra vigilant to not believe such statements and report to the institute the telephone numbers from which such calls originate.
