KCR lifts UAPA cases. Did he fear revolt? Telangana CM KCR lifted UAPA cases against six persons — Prof. Haragopal, Padmaja Shah, V. Raghunath, Gaddam Laxman, Gunti Ravinder, and Suresh Kumar. It is known that an FIR was registered and UAPA cases were filed against Prof.Haragopal and others in Mulugu for their provocative speeches in 2022.
This came to light after the cops opposed the bail petition of a person in a court. The police filed a case under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) based on the complaint lodged by V.Shankar, police on August 19, 2022, regarding an assembly of Maoist leaders. The Tadavai police in their 52-page FIR copy revealed the same.
CM KCR directed Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar to withdraw the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and in turn, The DGP asked Mulugu Superintendent of police (SP) Gaush Alam to consider withdrawing the FIR pertaining to the case. They have lifted based on their directions and the Mulugu police will file the same in a memo in court.
However, Telangana Udyama Karula Vedika (TUKV) chairman Prof. K. Venkatanarayana while welcoming CM KCR and BRS government's decision said KCR feared public revolt and so he decided to lift the UAPA cases.
