Charminar MIM's impregnable fortress. MIM has been maintaining an iron-like grip in its constituency Charminar. Ever since Virasat Rasool Khan won from this constituency in 1967, it became its bastion. Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi won the seat as an Independent candidate and he held it three times.
Though many other parties tried to break into the fortress, they failed in their efforts. Many parties ruled the entire state but they failed to win from the Charminar constituency. MIM won from this constituency irrespective of the candidates the party placed.
Old City is dominated by a Muslim population and with a dense minority community and more than 2 lakh electors in and around Purana Pul, Lad Bazaar, Moghalpura, Khilwat, Chaderghat, Lal Darwaza continued its dominance. However, in the last elections, MIM swapped the Charminar seat with Mumtaz Ahmed Khan and Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri while retaining all its seven candidates. Pasha Quadri who was the MLA of the Charminar constituency for three terms from 2004-2018 changed the constituency to Yakutpura constituency.
MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi won from Charminar three times and speculation is on the party may swap the candidates. BJP has been trying its best to put up a strong fight and other parties like MBT also are trying their best. BRS is however maintaining cordial relations with MIM>
