In 2018, the Telangana government said that it was planning to build automated multi-level parking (MLP) systems at about 40 locations in the city. So far, the progress has been abysmal.
In his latest statement, KTR said that the government is building a couple of MLPs in Hyderabad and that they don't meet the huge demand for parking slots in the city. Metro stations need to be supported by MLPs.
"In the newly proposed Metro routes (made official earlier in the week), we will try and provision for 'Park & Ride' mode with large parking areas," the Minister added.
The government is also in favour of acquiring vacant lands by collaborating with land owners so that they can be converted into parking areas.
The multi-level parking complex (MLP) in the Nampally area is the only one where progress has been achieved. About 2,000 sqm was acquired from HMRL for the purpose. This one MLP is costing more than Rs 60 Cr.
