Popular folk musician Balladeer Gaddar, also known as the People’s Singer, who was renowned for voicing people’s issues, breathed his last at Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad a few minutes ago.
Gaddar was admitted to Apollo Hospital over an age-related illness and also underwent a bypass surgery recently; however, he lost his battle on Sunday (August 6) at 3 p.m. due to lung, urinary, and age-related illnesses.
The hospital released an official statement confirming the same.
He was praised widely for voicing people’s issues in motivational songs. He was a key figure in the Telangana agitation, using his songs to draw attention to regional injustices.
Gaddar, who was born in 1949 as Gummadi Vithal Rao in Toopran, was active in the Naxalism movement until 2010. He thereafter rose to prominence within the Telangana movement.
In June, he announced the launch of a new political party named ‘Gaddar Praja Party’ ahead of the Assembly elections. Soon after Gaddar's announcement, he was suspended from the Praja Shanthi Party, which he joined in October 2022 ahead of the Munugode bypoll.
