FIR Filed Against Vijay Deverakonda Over Controversial "Tribal" Comments; Actor Issues Clarification

Actor Vijay Deverakonda is now facing legal action, with a formal First Information Report (FIR) registered against him today under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act at Raidurgam Police Station in Hyderabad. The case stems from remarks made by the actor during the pre-release event of Suriya's upcoming film, Retro, which have drawn sharp criticism from tribal organizations.

The controversy ignited when Deverakonda, while addressing the recent Pahalgam terror attack, reportedly referred to the attackers as "tribals from 500 years ago, fighting without common sense." These comments were widely perceived as offensive and derogatory by tribal communities, leading to widespread condemnation

The Tribal Joint Action Committee was quick to voice its strong disapproval, condemning the actor's statement and demanding a public apology for what they viewed as a disparaging comparison.

In response to the escalating backlash, Vijay Deverakonda issued a clarification via social media. He stated that his intention was never to insult or target India’s Scheduled Tribes. He explained that his use of the term "tribals" was in reference to ancient tribal warfare in a global and historical context, rather than any specific community within India. He further expressed sincere regret for any unintentional hurt or offense his words may have caused.

Despite his public apology, the FIR has been officially filed, and the Raidurgam Police have initiated a formal investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, on the professional front, Vijay Deverakonda's next film, Kingdom, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, is currently awaiting an official release date. The film features Bhagyashri Borse as the female lead, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
