Actor Sreeram Arrested in Chennai Drug Case, Investigation Underway
Prominent actor Sreeram, also known to Telugu audiences, has been arrested in connection with a drug case, sending ripples through the Tamil film industry. Officials from the Chennai Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) took him into custody earlier today.
Sreeram's name reportedly emerged during the interrogation of other individuals previously arrested in connection with the ongoing drug investigation. Specifically, allegations suggest that Sreeram procured drugs, including cocaine, from a former DMK leader. Reports indicate that Sreeram allegedly purchased cocaine approximately 40 times, paying around ₹12,000 per gram, with digital transactions amounting to ₹4.72 lakh being traced by the police.
Following his apprehension, Sreeram was taken to the Nungambakkam police station for questioning, where he was interrogated for over two hours. Police have also collected his blood samples for forensic testing to confirm drug usage, stating that further action will be determined based on these results.
This drug bust is part of a broader investigation that has already seen the arrest of several individuals, including a former AIADMK leader named Prashanth. Information gleaned from their interrogations reportedly led to Sreeram's detention. Allegations also suggest that Sreeram might have been involved in drug use at private parties and clubs in Chennai.
The incident has intensified scrutiny on drug use within the Kollywood industry. Reports indicate that the ongoing investigation might unveil more names of Tamil actors involved, potentially causing further upheaval. Neither Sreeram nor his legal representatives have issued an official statement regarding the allegations so far. Authorities have emphasized that the investigation is still in its early stages and that proceedings will remain strictly evidence-based.
