"Like Watching a Real-Time Murder Mystery": Teja Sajja on Hosting Prime Video's Unscripted Sensation ‘The Traitors Telugu’
Riding high on back-to-back cinematic hits, Tollywood's young superhero star Teja Sajja is stepping into an exciting new arena. Leading streaming giant Prime Video is bringing the globally celebrated, BAFTA and Emmy-winning psychological reality format to regional audiences with ‘The Traitors Telugu’, featuring Teja Sajja as the charismatic host and gamekeeper.
Produced on an expansive scale by SOL Production, the high-stakes 10-episode series gathers 20 prominent celebrities from across entertainment, sports, and media into an atmosphere where deception reigns supreme. Set against an intricate web of trust and betrayal, players must identify who among them is a secret "Traitor" while trying to survive daily eliminations.
The series is set for an exclusive worldwide premiere on Prime Video on October 15, 2026, with fresh episodes dropping every Thursday at 12:00 PM IST accompanied by English subtitles.
Ahead of the premiere, Teja Sajja sat down for an engaging press interaction to discuss what drew him to the project, the intensity of hosting, and his upcoming film slate.
"The Fastest Project I Ever Said Yes To"
When asked about transitioning to hosting after cinematic triumphs, Teja revealed his long-standing fascination with the show’s blueprint:
"The Traitors is an absolute global phenomenon produced across more than 20 countries in over 25 languages. When Karan Johar hosted the Hindi adaptation, I started with one episode out of curiosity and binged the entire season in just two days. Right after wrapping up Mirai, Prime Video approached me.
It was honestly the quickest 'yes' of my career. The format is bulletproof—it works everywhere because psychological deception is universally gripping. Collaborating with an international platform like Prime Video to mount a Telugu reality show of this scale is a massive milestone."
Acting as the Gamekeeper: A Unique Hosting Challenge
Unlike conventional reality shows driven by casual banter and teleprompters, The Traitors requires the host to embody a measured, enigmatic presence within the house:
"We shot the entire 10-episode arc in a brisk 11-day schedule. Playing the host here felt just like portraying an intense character in a feature film. I had to maintain total composure—like a strict class leader steering high-stakes tension.
In a typical studio reality show, directors can call 'cut' whenever a host slips. Here, every rule briefing and confrontation unfolded right in front of the contestants in continuous single takes. On day one, I was handed four dense pages of gameplay rules that had to be delivered flawlessly in one shot. Watching familiar faces like Pragathi garu, Harshavardhan garu, and Chinmayi garu strategize and suspect each other added incredible organic drama."
A Pure Psychological Game Designed for All Ages
Addressing how local audiences will receive the format, Teja emphasized its clean structure:
"Viewers will completely grasp the rhythm within the first three episodes. It doesn't rely on manufactured emotional melodrama. Like chess or football, it follows strict tactical rules: you must manipulate, build alliances, spot bluffs, and survive.
Contestants weren't cast based on fame alone; they were picked for their analytical instincts and mental agility. Furthermore, this isn't just an adult thriller—kids as young as seven or eight across the world love this format because trying to guess the hidden 'traitor' turns viewing into a captivating family game."
Quick Update on Zombie Reddy 2
Signing off with an update on his upcoming cinematic projects, Teja confirmed that regular filming for the highly anticipated sequel ‘Zombie Reddy 2’ kicked off recently, promising fans an out-and-out wild comic ride that matches the inventive madness of the original.
