Sri Vishnu, the King of Entertainment, stars in the summer sensational blockbuster #Single, a production of the prestigious Geetha Arts. The film features Ketika Sharma and Ivana as the heroines, with Vennela Kishore playing a pivotal role. Karthik Raju directed this movie, presented by Geetha Arts mega-producer Allu Aravind and produced by Vidya Koppinedi, Bhanu Pratap, and Riaz Chowdhary under Kalyan Films. Released in theaters on May 9th, the film has been entertaining everyone and has become a summer blockbuster, running successfully. On this occasion, Vennela Kishore shared details about the film at a press meet.
Your character in #Single has received an amazing response. Some reviews even called you the second lead. How do you feel about that?
-When we eat chicken biryani, sometimes we get a liver piece. It feels like that piece brings a certain taste to the biryani. My character in this film is somewhat like that (laughs).
The director said there was no other option besides you for this role?
-Director Raj is a very nice person. Sri Vishnu Garu improvises dialogues very spontaneously. There needs to be an actor next to him who can react just as spontaneously. The director felt that I would be the right fit for such a spontaneous character. That's why he was determined from the beginning that Vennela Kishore should be in the frame with Sri Vishnu.
-When I first heard the story of this film, it felt very hilarious. I enjoyed it a lot when Bhanu Nandu narrated the story. That same entertainment has translated onto the screen.
-People are enjoying the movie a lot in theaters. Honestly, I usually can't watch my own movies on screen. But when I watched this film with the audience in the theater, their response gave me immense joy.
What precautions do you take to choose novelty in comedy roles?
-Actually, there isn't that much versatility in choosing comedy roles right now. First, we need to encourage writers a lot. Only when writers come up with new ideas will comedy roles also be new. Many times, we get regular characters. But I try to own it and present some uniqueness within it. It gives me great pleasure when a scene moves forward because of me.
What kind of roles are you basically interested in doing?
-I like to enter a world, whether it's our world or another, and play roles that entertain there. For example, I really like the roles I did in 'Geetha Govindam' and 'Ami Thumi'.
How challenging is it to generate comedy in the current times?
-Very challenging. There's an abundance of content on all platforms now. If you just open reels, you see so many comedy videos. To make audiences come to theaters and enjoy, you have to offer something beyond that. The character has to click. Getting all those elements right is a very big challenge.
Which genre do you like?
-I like thrillers.
After 'Charlie', you haven't done another film as a hero. Do you have any plans to do so again?
-Stories are coming, but they're still about love stories and songs. Those don't suit me that much. I will definitely do it if a proper comedy story comes along.
How did you feel when Brahmanandam Garu called you his successor?
-He said that out of love. It was an affectionate remark to give me some kind of boost.
Do you have any dream roles?
-I don't have any specific dream roles. My dream role was fulfilled after the movie 'Dookudu'. Playing such a good character alongside Mahesh Babu Garu was truly a dream role. Everything I'm doing now is a bonus. I'm enjoying it a lot.
Your favorite characters?
-There are many. However, the ones that will remain memorable throughout my life are Vennela, Bindas, and Dookudu.
How did you feel when Geetha Arts asked you to play the character named Aravind in #Single?
-I felt very lucky to get such a character.
