Producer and distributor Bunny Vas, renowned for backing successful Telugu films, including the recent hit Raju Weds Rambai, has voiced serious concerns about the rising menace of piracy affecting the film industry. Speaking at a recent event, Bunny Vas emphasized the damaging impact piracy has on small producers, many of whom invest their entire savings and make huge personal sacrifices to bring films to audiences.
Addressing the common misconception linking piracy to ticket price hikes, Bunny Vas clarified that only a handful of big films increase prices annually, yet piracy indiscriminately affects every release, big or small. He condemned the justification of piracy by some viewers on social media, calling it unacceptable to benefit at the expense of creators.
Bunny Vas highlighted that piracy disrupts the livelihood of hardworking producers and film workers, pushing many into financial distress. “Producers might appear strong publicly, but behind the scenes, they face immense struggles,” he noted, urging film lovers to support cinema responsibly by watching films in theaters and not resorting to illegal platforms.
He also pointed to the urgent need for stronger enforcement measures, increased public awareness, and better regulation to curb illegal distribution. The plea underlines the critical role audiences play in sustaining the regional film ecosystem amid growing piracy challenges.
