Naresh Agastya is gearing up for the release of his upcoming dark comedy film Gurram Paapireddy, in which he stars opposite Faria Abdullah. The movie, directed by Murali Manohar, is produced by Venu Saddi, Amar Bura, and Jayakanth (Bobby), and presented by Dr. Sandhya Goli. Promising a completely new concept for Telugu cinema, the film is set for a grand worldwide release on December 19.

In a recent media interaction, Naresh Agastya spoke about his role, the film’s theme, and what makes Gurram Paapireddy stand out.

A Different Kind of Role

“This is unlike any character I’ve done before,” Naresh shared. “Usually, my on-screen roles are calm and composed. But in Gurram Paapireddy, I play someone more energetic — a person who drives the story forward.” He was instantly drawn to the script when director Murali Manohar narrated it, and the team worked on it for almost a year.

Recalling a funny moment during promotions, he added, “Tejaswini accidentally called our movie ‘Gedela Paapireddy’ instead of ‘Gurram Paapireddy’. That slip-up went viral and surprisingly worked in our favor!”

A Hunt with Twists and Humor

Offering a glimpse into the narrative, Naresh said, “My character comes with a specific mission that involves gathering a few not-so-smart individuals. We are searching for a dead body, but whose it is and why — that’s the suspense.”

The actor described the film as a clever dark comedy, adding, “When people suffer in tricky situations, others find it funny — that’s dark humor. In our story, even though every scene has comedy, the plot has a strong emotional core. The interval twist will completely surprise the audience.”

Strong Technical and Performance Support

Naresh Agastya praised the producers for their commitment: “Our producers never compromised on quality. Amar garu ensured that even when expenses increased, the production value stayed top-notch.”

Talking about working with Yogi Babu, he said, “Though I don’t share scenes with Brahmanandam garu, I did shoot with Yogi Babu. He’s such a genuine and fun person — he even took me around Ramoji Film City on his bike to click selfies!”

Ensemble Cast and Music

The actor highlighted his co-stars’ contributions — “Faria Abdullah, Rajkumar Kasireddy, and Vamsidhar have impeccable comic timing. We all shared a great bond on set. It was like performing with friends.”

He also praised the film’s music, composed by Krishna Saurabh, saying the songs and promotional track have already received strong audience response.

Looking Forward to Audience Response

Naresh believes that trailers and teasers play a big role in reaching audiences. “Our trailer is performing really well. People who watched it are confident about the film’s success. I haven’t seen the full movie yet — I’m waiting to experience it with the audience at the premiere.”

Beyond Cinema

On a personal note, the actor shared his passion for travel and free diving, saying, “I once went 80 feet deep and stayed underwater for 3 minutes and 40 seconds on a single breath. It’s a thrilling experience.”

Naresh also spoke about the meaning of commercial cinema in his view: “A film is commercial when it can entertain without depending solely on songs or fights. Gurram Paapireddy fits that definition perfectly.” He revealed that his next project, 70% completed and shot in the Sahara Desert, will be his most commercial outing yet.

“I’ve worked on concept-driven films like Vikatakavi and Senapathi, which clicked more through OTT. This time, with Gurram Paapireddy, we ensured strong promotions to take the film to every corner,” he concluded.
