"A 5-Hour Daily Makeup Routine Inspired by Kamal Haasan & Vikram"
Ahead of the massive global theatrical rollout of the highly anticipated psychological thriller Rao Bahadur this Friday, versatile actor Satyadev settled down for a candid media interaction. Spilling exclusive details about his character, 'Ramappa,' the actor revealed that the film fulfills a lifelong professional dream.
The Physical and Mental Grind: "Ever since I became an actor, watching legends like Kamal Haasan sir, Vikram sir, and Suriya sir undergo extreme physical altercations for heavy prosthetics inspired me. With Rao Bahadur, that dream materialized, though it required 300% more effort than standard commercial cinema. My makeup took a grueling five hours to apply every single day and an hour and a half to carefully strip off. It tested my absolute limits of patience, but more than the prosthetic layer, it was the 'mind makeup' and mental endurance that pulled me through 16-hour daily shifts," Satyadev revealed.
Shifting From 1960 to 1999: A Global Nomad's Dark Journey
Unveiling the structural timeline and hidden sub-genres of the Venkatesh Maha directorial, Satyadev verified that Rao Bahadur is a core psychological drama heavily layered with dark humor and magical realism.
Plot and Character Layers: "The narrative spans a vast timeline from 1960 to 1999. The protagonist is an eccentric global nomad. The core conflict ignites when his wanderlust brings him back to his ancestral palace, Bhuvanalayam. While there are no conventional mass action blocks, the film is loaded with high-voltage 'acting sequences.' For the first time in my career, I am performing extensive dance numbers, including a complex salsa sequence and an entire musical track shot entirely on specialized harness ropes."
The actor highly praised his co-star Deepa Thomas for delivering an equally matched performance in an underlying, beautiful romantic arc. He also extended his gratitude to visual effects supervisor Ramji for seamlessly mapping Ramappa's volatile psychological thoughts into realistic, high-end CG environments, alongside production designers Rohan and Shilpa, and music director Smaran Sai.
A Full-Circle Moment with Superstar Mahesh Babu
Reflecting on the massive buzz generated by Mahesh Babu's voiceover presentation, Satyadev shared a deeply personal, full-circle anecdote that brought him to tears of gratitude.
The SVSC Connection: "Many years ago, I shot for a small character role in Mahesh Babu sir's Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, but my scene was ultimately sliced out on the editing table. Today, to hear that exact same Superstar watch my film, rave about it for 40 minutes alongside Namrata Garu, and deliver a booming voiceover saying 'Satyadev in...' is an invaluable honor. Hit filmmaker Sukumar sir also watched the film and echoed the same sentiment: 'This is a Telugu film like never seen before.'"
Satyadev thanked his core production trio—Sharath, Anurag, and Gopalakrishna—for shielding him from distribution anxieties and single-handedly securing a massive global layout. Addressing the local box office market, the actor concluded: "When unconventional cinema arrives from Malayalam or Tamil industries, our audiences shower it with love while lamenting its absence locally. Rao Bahadur is the answer to that void. It is a visual spectacle that guarantees full value for the audience's ticket money."
