Rakesh Varre’s ‘Maya Lady’ Promises a Refreshing Musical Family Entertainer in the Vibe of ‘Kushi’ and ‘Manmadhudu’ — Releasing November 13
Versatile actor and passionate producer Rakesh Varre—who earned critical acclaim for backing distinct, content-driven gems like Evvarikee Cheppoddhu and Peka Medalu—is returning to the big screen with a wholesome commercial entertainer titled ‘Maya Lady’.
Directed by Prasankar and produced by Rakesh Varre under his banner Crazy Ants Productions, the film stars Rakesh alongside Bengali actress Madhumitha Sarcar, who makes her Telugu cinema debut. Following a massive buzz around its promotional assets, the makers hosted a grand theatrical trailer launch event in Hyderabad ahead of its worldwide release on November 13.
Rakesh Varre: “We Wanted to Bring Back the Magic of Classic Romance”
Addressing the media at the trailer launch, Rakesh Varre opened up about his two-year hiatus and why he chose to pivot toward a feel-good romantic entertainer at a time when heavy action films dominate the box office:
“After Peka Medalu and Evvarikee Cheppoddhu, I spent considerable time thinking about my next step. While intense action films are being made one after another, I realized it has been a long time since we experienced a pure love story with the vibe of ‘Kushi’, ‘Manmadhudu’, or ‘Nuvvu Naaku Nachav’ on the big screen. When director Prasankar brought this script, we spent nearly a year locking it. I invested beyond my market limits because I firmly believe this script has blockbuster potential. Maya Lady will offer a refreshing musical escape for families this November.”
Exploring Complex Relationship Dynamics
Director Prasankar noted that the narrative is rooted in authentic emotional beats, centering on a young protagonist named Krish (played by Rakesh Varre) and his girlfriend. The film explores the shifting emotional spectrum of modern relationships—balancing happiness, friction, comedy, and a subtle social message.

Musical Backing: Recognizing the vital role of music in romantic dramas, the makers roped in Vishal Chandrashekhar, whose melodious compositions and background score have already become major highlights.

Action & Craft: Fight master Anji revealed that despite being a musical family drama, the film features distinct, high-energy action sequences that required intense physical preparation from the lead actors. Art director Bhargava Noundla, reuniting with Rakesh after Jithender Reddy, crafted sleek visual worlds to elevate the theatrical experience.
