'Adipurush' controversy: Did the film really misrepresent Brahmin Ravana?

In a scene in 'Adipurush', Ravana (Saif Ali Khan) is shown feeding meat to an animal on his den-like island. The scene has become controversial. In a YouTube review, a North Indian audience member is seen mocking the film for showing a Brahmin and a Shiva devotee as a meat-feeding demon.

But the truth of the matter is that the interpretation by 'Adipurush' is in tune with Valmiki's Ramayana. As per a Twitter user nick-named Eminent Intellectual, both the Ramayana and the Mahabharatha call Ravana a man-eater. "Hanuman also finds different types of meat in Ravana's kitchen as per Valmiki's Ramayan," the Twitter user adds, presenting proof.

Ravana's mother was a Rakshasi. Ravana himself was a demon king, who didn't observe Brahminical rituals to the hilt.

Clearly, director Om Raut has been criticized for some wrong reasons. The way he portrayed the meat-feeding scene seems to have made the audience believe that he was stretching creative liberty to ridiculous levels. Proper contextualizing would have helped.
