RGV Den will replace film institutes, suggests RGV

Ram Gopal Varma is looking to hone future filmmakers at his RGV Den. He has invited applications from aspiring filmmakers. The shortlisted candidates will be interviewed and candidates in the final list will get to work as Assistant Directors.

In a social media post, the maverick filmmaker suggested that RGV Den will impart practical training, unlike film institutes which have become "outdated". "Whole training is so misplaced in the context of how the present-day film industry works. Films have metamorphosed from art forms to commerce-driven forms," said RGV.

He added that film institutes are no longer the exclusive repositories of archives of world-class films. "It might have been so in olden times. But in today’s times the Internet gives every film anyone ever wants to see (sic)," Varma wrote.

Film institutes, owing to their lack of updated knowledge, continue to recommend films like 'Citizen Kane'. As per RGV, such international classics have no relevance to commercial cinema as it stands today.
