Boyapati Sreenu garners support from mass audience

Boyapati Sreenu started out in the mid-2000s. About 17 years later, he continues to be a filmmaker to reckon with. His latest offering, 'Skanda', has become the biggest opening-day earner in the career of Ram Pothineni. By grossing about Rs 18 Cr on Day 1 (September 28), the action entertainer has proved that Boyapati is a remarkable and dependable mass filmmaker.

'Skanda' is not a pathbreaking film by any yardstick. The story is formulaic. That said, Boyapati's unapologetic treatment is what has made all the difference. The mass audience have embraced the film's sensibilities, its larger-than-life action and its loud background score.

After 'Akhanda' created a sensation in 2021, Boyapati discovered a new ability to make the audience wait for the second editions of his titles. He is the only star filmmaker in today's Tollywood to have two sequels in mind: 'Akhanda 2' and 'Skanda 2'. If these two films become hits, he will have cemented his position for the next ten years. That will also make him one of the most durable filmmakers in the history of Telugu cinema.

Everything said, Boyapati must try to infuse novel female characters in his films.
