Director Sree Harsha Konuganti shot to fame with his debut movie 'Hushaaru' in 2018. The youthful comedy was followed by his 2022 venture 'Rowdy Boys'. More than two years later, the young filmmaker is gearing up for the release of 'Om Bheem Bush', starring Sree Vishnu, Priyadarshi and Rahul Ramakrishna as con men who are aging freeloaders.
Excerpts from his latest interview:
Whacky humour, emotions:
The film's premise has been given a whacky treatment. The lead men are aging students who survived on University stipends, free food, etc for years. What happens when such fellows are left with no support system? I have come across such students, who are in their 30s, in Hyderabad's Nallakunta where I have stayed for many years. The male protagonists in my film have no goals in life.
The film is not just about comedy. There is an element nobody in Indian cinema has dealt with before. It's an emotional point.
Hidden treasures:
In the olden days, when the banking system was absent, rich people used to stash their wealth underground. Even to this day, treasure hunts involve search for those hidden treasures. In 'Om Bheem Bush', the protagonists are engaged in something of this sort in a village. While the caption says 'No logic, only magic', you can expect plenty of logic from our movie.
Picking the right actors:
The story of 'OBB' is the true hero of the film. And the three lead actors are a bonus! I had both Priaydarshi and Rahul Ramakrishna in mind from the start. Sree Vishnu has done an entertainer like 'Samajavaragamana', wherein the comedy was driven by the story. If you found that movie funny, you will love my film ten times funnier. This is also the cleanest film from Sree Vishnu. The 'Guptha nidhulu' double entendre in the Teaser got highlighted somehow but the comedy, otherwise, is clean. Preethi Mukundhan is paired up with Vishnu. Ayesha Khan is paired up with Priyadarshi. Kamakshi Bhaskarla of 'Polimera' fame and Priya Vadlamani will be seen in special appearances.
Teaming up with V Celluloid:
V Celluloid recently scored a hit with 'Gaami'. Producer Vamsi anna is such a pleasure to work with. Once the script is okayed, his interference is absent. It's a dream come true for me. The pre-release business of 'Om Bheem Bush' is very encouraging. It might be remade in Hindi.
