During the ongoing discussions concerning the Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill, 2023, YSRCP MP V Vijayasai Reddy on Thursday made utterances against the high remuneration charged by film heroes.
"If a Bollywood film's budget is Rs 400 Cr, the hero's remuneration alone is Rs 250 Cr. A big hero like Salman Khan is charging that much. The film industry employs about two lakh workers. However, only 50-60 heroes are pocketing a lion's share of the budget. Poor people spend their hard-earned incomes on watching movies in India. In such a scenario, the remunerations of heroes can't be astronomical," Reddy said.
The MP also said that only the sons of heroes become heroes in India. "What about the many other handsome people in this country?" he asked, urging Union Minister Anurag Thakur to take note of the issue.
One wonders how the parliamentarian thinks nepotism in the film industry can be legislated against. No matter what, the privilege of the sons of star heroes can't be ended. No reasonable society can bring in laws against a father favouring his son.
