The ongoing flood situation in parts of Andhra Pradesh is a blot on the quality of governance in Andhra Pradesh. Both in terms of precautionary measures and relief efforts, the current government has been found wanting.
In this context, the remarks made by former Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy are pertinent. He has drawn the attention of the public to Chandrababu Naidu's failure while also trying to smartly shift the blame to the previous governments. Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, too, has been speaking in generic terms, refusing to take a firm stance on a future plan of action.
Flood mitigation measures despite warnings from the Irrigation department were neglected. Kakani Govardhan Reddy accused the CM of using diversionary tactics to obscure his failures in flood relief efforts. He noted that, rather than addressing the needs of flood victims, the government is preoccupied with blaming previous administrations and targeting YSRCP leaders with legal cases.
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Srikakulam, Manyam, and Vizianagaram. Visakhapatnam, Alluri, and Godavari districts have been issued an orange alert.
