Government teacher suspended after a Facebook post!

Government employees are expected to not be critical of the government and its policies. However, this expectation should not be stretched to the point of gagging them. In the past, the TMC government harassed a few individuals for making anti-government posts on social media.

In the latest instance, a government school teacher named Shanthamurthy MG from Karnataka’s Chitradurga district is bearing the brunt for criticizing the newly-formed Congress government. In a Facebook post, the suspended teacher questioned the rationale behind approving funds to the tune of Rs 50,000 Cr towards freebies.

As per local media reports, the teacher works in the Kanubennahalli government school in Hosadurga.

As per an India Today report, the teacher's report caught the attention of the Field Education Officer, who promptly issued the suspension order.

Usually, such government employees are let off with a warning. They are reinstated after a couple of months. However, their example scares other government employees, who will gag themselves. Netizens are criticizing the Siddaramaiah government for being intolerant of criticism.
