The Telangana State Cabinet stated on Thursday that it would remove GO 111. The GO was formed initially in the year 1996 in order to stop excessive industrialization, large-scale development projects in 83 villages, and the contamination of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar. The announcement came at the first meeting held in the newly opened State Secretariat.
As much as 1.32 lakh acres of land in 84 villages in seven mandals were covered under GO 111. These include six mandals in the unorganised Rangareddy district and one village in the Kothur mandal of the nearby Mahbubnagar district. Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, Moinabad, Chevella, Shabad, and Shankarpally are among the six mandals.
The 10-km catchment area of Osmansagar and Himayat Sagar includes the 84 villages.
Many have questioned the party's choice to repeal a GO intended to protect drinking water ever since the news broke.
Internet users started to wonder how the BRS would continue to provide drinking water to future generations if GO 111 was scrapped.
A few people asked the BRS for a strategy for eliminating the GO.
Some have also called on a few activists to file a case against the government's decision.
On the other hand, the Cabinet also made the decision to improve the State's primary healthcare system by designating 33 District Medical and Health Officers (DMHO) in place of the current 10, in each of the State's 33 districts.
It also ordered the sanction for Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Umamaheswara Lift Irrigation scheme in Nagarkurnool district.
