Now that the assembly elections are done and dusted in Telangana, the focus has shifted to the MP elections which are set to be held in April or May, 2024. The leading parties have started to prepare the ground for the same.
Naturally, Congress will look to continue its stronghold in the state by winning big in the MP elections while BRS will look to cover the lost ground by making a splash in the MP elections.
Today, Telangana Congress held a PAC meeting and all the important leaders took part in the same. It was later established that Telangana Congress wants Sonia Gandhi to contest in Telangana MP elections at any cost. The proposal is to field Sonia Gandhi from Medak parliamentary constituency in the election.
But for that to happen, there is a clause. Even KCR has been intending to contest in parliamentary elections for a long time now. He has picked Medak as his favorable constituency as there is a strong BRS wave here. He looks all but certain to contest from Medak in the next election. A win here will regain the mojo of BRS, he believes.
As for Congress, they have another sentiment going their way as well. Back in 1980, Indira Gandhi won from Medak and catapulted Congress to power nationally. Now, Telangana Congress has decided to suggest Sonia to contest from Medak and win here. But will Sonia agree to it and take on KCR who is also likely to contest here? We shall wait and see.
