Gurram Paapireddy is aiming to bring a fresh, quirky flavour of dark comedy to Telugu audiences, and its team is clearly banking on word-of-mouth support.
Gurram Paapireddy, starring Naresh Agastya and Faria Abdullah, is produced by Venu Saddi, Amar Bura, and Jayakanth (Bobby), with Dr. Sandhya Goli presenting the film. Directed by Murali Manohar, it is positioned as a new-age dark comedy built around a concept that the team says hasn’t been attempted before in Telugu cinema, and is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on December 19.
Dialogue writer Niranjan shared that the team consciously stayed away from routine commercial formulas and tried “something new” to give viewers a different cinematic experience, even though experimenting itself feels risky today. Music director Krishna Saurabh spoke about exploring new genres for the soundtrack, with the already released “Paisa Dum Dum” getting strong response and highlighting Faria’s added turn as a singer.
Director Murali Manohar credited producer and friend Bobby as the trigger for the project and emphasized that complete creative freedom from the producers allowed him to stay rooted in Telugu nativity while still offering a new flavour. He thanked every artist and technician for backing his vision and urged audiences to experience Gurram Paapireddy in theatres on the 19th.
Producer Amar Bura praised Murali as the key reason the film shaped up well, noting how US-based friends and distributors are talking primarily about the content. He revealed that they waited two months to lock Yogi Babu’s dates, and promised that his role, along with performances by Jeevan, Vamsidhar, and Rajkumar Kasireddy, will deliver strong laughs. Amar also pointed out how relatively private lead Naresh Agastya has been aggressively promoting the film, and called Faria Abdullah a versatile performer whose work will be a major highlight.
Faria, who plays Soudhamini, described the film as a “different dark comedy” and said director Murali’s emotional speech reflects his passion. She noted that Krishna Saurabh has elevated the film with both songs and background score, and mentioned that she wrote, sang, and choreographed a song herself, appreciating the producers for creating a pressure-free, NRI-friends-like atmosphere during shoot and travel.
Naresh Agastya said he appears in three to four different getups, with the old-age look requiring significant effort, and thanked Murali and Amar for ensuring a stress-free schedule. He highlighted Krishna Saurabh’s music and Niranjan’s punchy comedy lines, and requested audiences to watch and share their feedback after the December 19 release.
Legendary comedian Brahmanandam plays a key role as a judge who narrates the story to viewers, calling Gurram Paapireddy a different kind of story staged in a way that suits today’s audience tastes. He said Yogi Babu’s track will be a special attraction, praised the comedy and performances of Jeevan Kumar, Raj Kumar Kasireddy, and Vamsidhar Kosigi, and recalled being fooled by Naresh and Faria’s old-age looks on set. He also commended the producers for not compromising on quality and urged viewers to encourage new-age films by newcomers like this so the industry can grow and provide more opportunities.
