As per an Economic Times column written by senior journalist Seema Sirohi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid a secretive visit to the White House during his recent American journey. Several commentators, particularly those disposed to support the BJP, are asking why the visit has not been disclosed so far.
Since the meeting has been kept under wraps, suspicions have been stoked by many social media handles. "How come the Congress party didn't talk about it openly? This is concerning, especially because the Indian parliamentarian met some unnamed officials at White House ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state visit to the US," a columnist suggested.
Ironically, the news comes just a day after some BJP spokespersons/leaders gloated about the White House dismissing Congress' concerns over the allegedly deteriorating health of democracy in India. The White House's official statement has been used by the BJP to discredit Rahul's assertions that democracy is dying a slow death in India.
At the time of writing this peace, the Congress party didn't react to the news about its leader's "secret" visit to the White House.
