One of the most talked about projects in the Telugu states is the Polavaram project and it is discussed for the wrong reasons. A project which was to happen many years ago is still in a limbo thanks to the greed of various politicians and the contractors. This was meant to be the most prestigious project in Andhra Pradesh but it became the most notorious project.
But now, things seem to be changing as Chief Minister Y S Jagan has put his focus. The Polavaram project's length is 1655 meters and height is 31.5 meters. Now, it is heard that the YSRCP government has successfully completed the down copper dam works. Reports say this was achieved by using 34,83,000 cubic meters of sand, black clay and stones. As a result, no matter how big a flood reaches the Godavari river, there is no chance that it would breach the human settlements on its bank.
The road is also clear for ECRF Dam works. Now, all eyes are on the report of National Hydro Power Corporation on the diaphragm wall. Based on the guidance of Dam Review Tribunal and Central Water Commission, Y S Jagan's government is going to take steps towards the ECRF Dam works. Jagan wants to offer the benefits of Polavaram Project to the farmers at the earliest so he has expedited the works, as per sources.
The ECRF Dam would be constructed across the Godavari river so that the flood water can be diverted. The upper side would be 2840 meters long with 43 meters height. So, even if the water is released at once, it is not going to create damage. Using the upper copper dam they are going to release the water from the right canal this year and all the works related to the right approach channel are completed including digging the tunnels. That way, what started as a project by TDP and turned into a failure is now converted into a hit by Jagan and his government.
