Opposition parties to boycott Parliament inaugural function

So far, at least seven Opposition parties have announced that they will be boycotting the inauguration function of the new Parliament that is scheduled to take place on May 28. The Congress party is the most important of them all.

The TMC was the first to announce the boycott. The Shiv Sena (led by the Uddhav Thackeray faction), the AAP, the CPI and the CPM have since come together to boycott the important event.

What is more, the DMK too has decided to boycott the new Parliament building inauguration, the party's MP Tiruchi Siva has been quoted as saying by ANI. From Bihar, the Rashtriya Janata Dal has also joined the boycott camp.

The political parties are expected to come up with different reasons for the boycott. For example, the AAP has said that it is "displeased with the decision to exclude the President of India from the opening ceremony". They want the building to be inaugurated by the president.
