Netizens are accusing the Culture Ministry of the Narendra Modi government of not picking the right performances during the G20 Summit. A video clip shared by the news agency PTI shows a low-effort dance performance that is neither here nor there. Is it Indian? Or, is it an Indian performance corrupted by Western influence?
Netizens are putting out angry rants, asking the officials at the Culture Ministry to be put on notice for approving the graceless performance. "Even Kindergarten kids, when properly coached, will exhibit superior grace and coordination than this comical mishap," a Twitter user wrote. "Borderline demeaning to our own culture and an absolute lack of sense of aesthetics and fine arts," lamented another user.
"My wife's Bharatanatyam Academy in Hyderabad can send original Bharatanatyam dancers. Don't call this a cultural dance. It's blasphemous," wrote a user whose lament has so far clocked more than 30,000 views. "The Culture Ministry truly is the most deluded and useless ministry in terms of organizing events. You do not present stupid tropes, you depict something better and salient," commented another Netizen.
The choice of the song is most probably bizarre. A music aficionado wrote that the song is about a woman seeking freedom to indulge in a one-night stand. Wonder how it was even approved.
