Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was on Sunday in Karimnagar to address a public rally. On the occasion, the towering saffron leader from the Northeast said that his party intends to shut down Madrasas in Assam. He was directly pointing out at Asaduddin Owaisi, the AIMIM leader.
The BJP leader projected his party's stance as an attempt to thwart "love jihad" in Assam. "After I became Chief Minister, I closed down 600 Madrassas in my State. I will be closing down 300 more this year, Owaisi," Sarma said.
BJP leaders recently promised Karnataka voters that Madrasas will be targeted like in Assam. But the same didn't fetch any Hinduvta-driven additional votes. Karnataka BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal said in March that, if BJP retains power in Karnataka, all Madrasas will be shut down in pursuance of the Assam model.
