Green Ganesha in Nagole is a first-of-its-kind in India

A first-of-its-kind Ganesha idol, made of 5000 green leaves, has been put up at Hyderabad's Nagole. The 20-foot-tall idol has been a major draw this season.

"We are calling it the Green Ganesha. We have put up this eco-friendly statue to spread awareness about caring for the environment while celebrating our festivals," the organizers said. Devotees visiting the statue for 'darshan' have been given one leaf as 'prasadam'.

The attractive statue, painstakingly made by a team of artists, will be put up for nine days. "We want everyone in India to grow plants and breathe healthy air for a happy and prosperous life," the organizers said.

Eco-friendly Ganesha idols are expected to become a major trend in the coming years, with increasing levels of awareness about the pitfalls of promoting Plaster of Paris. Communities prefer to make donations for initiatives that are environment-conscious. In this regard, the Nagole innovation has to be appreciated.
