A government job aspirant from Warangal was found dead in a girls' hostel in Hyderabad's Ashok Nagar on Friday evening. Ashok Nagar is where thousands of aspirants studying for UPSC, TSPSC and APPSC jobs live.
Pravallika died by suicide allegedly because she was distressed about the postponement of GROUP 2 and the cancelation of two GROUP 1 exams by the TSPSC.
If Pravallika killed herself because she was becoming a burden to her parents (as her suicide note allegedly indicates), her very thinking was stupid. She could have opted for a job in the private sector to support her parents. A private sector job is far easier to be bagged compared with the amount of hard work needed to secure a government job.
Government jobs enjoy perverse craze in India. It is a shame that aspirants are ready to spend lakhs of rupees on coaching and accommodation, and waste years of their prime time vying to land a sarkari job. In backward States such as Bihar and UP, the obsession is even worse. People sell off their family property to afford expensive coaching in Delhi, Patna and Lucknow.
Government jobs need luck as well. Private sector jobs don't demand you to be lucky if you have adequate skill.
