In a stunning development, an Odisha-based news channel has gone many steps ahead. It has created a virtual news anchor. Named Lisa, the anchor has been generated using a computer system.
"Meet Lisa, OTV and Odisha’s first virtual AI news anchor, set to revolutionize TV Broadcasting & Journalism. OTV’s AI news anchor Lisa has the capability to speak in multiple languages. She will seamlessly present news in Odia apart from English for OTV and its digital platforms," wrote Nandam Prati Sharma, an Odiya journalist, sharing the update.
Some Netizens have commented that the AI-powered news anchor feels more real and less fake (in terms of her accent) than human anchors. But can an artificial anchor replace humans in flesh and blood? Won't the initial surprise give way to eventual boredom? "News anchors need a more vibrant personality, the ability to change tone, and expressions," writes Pradip Varma, hoping that AI will get there a few years down the line.
