Karnataka's Assembly elections are taking place today (May 10). A day before, Congress’s Karnataka chief DK Shivakumar kicked off a novel campaign. He literally did a pooja to the LPG gas cylinder, whose price has gone up a number of times in the last few years. It's Congress' way of attacking the Modi government over fuel inflation.
As polling is underway today, Congress party workers put out gas cylinders outside some booths for Congress voters to garland them and offer worship. "Across thousands of booths in Karnataka, we are witnessing a ‘Cylinder Election’. Just like Modi ji had demanded, a ritual and then a VOTE against Price Rise! (sic)," wrote Srivata, a Congress leader from Karnataka.
As far as the Congress party is concerned, this is a novel way of protest. Will it impact the voters' last-minute preferences? We will have to wait for the jury of pollsters.
