Congress candidate Shamanur Shivashankarappa won the elections from the Davanagere constituency, defeating IND candidate B. Rajashekar.
The 92-year-old man, a nonagenarian, set a record in the Karnataka assembly elections. Senior Congress leader Shamanuru Sivashankarappa has won for the fourth time in a row from the Davanagere South Constituency. He became an undefeated leader after winning four consecutive MLAs.
Sishankarappa entered politics in 1994 and was elected as Davangere Municipal President. After that, he won the 1997 Lok Sabha elections. In 2004, he won again as a Davangere MLA. He won three consecutive elections as Davanagere South MLA in 2008, 2013, and 2018. Meanwhile, Shivashankarappa created a record by winning the 2023 assembly elections once again.
He is a veteran congressman and has served as treasurer of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee for the past three decades. He also serves as president of the All India Veerashaiva Mahasabha, the supreme body of Veerashaivas. He is the chairman of the Bapuji Educational Association, a well-known educationalist and industrialist that owns a chain of educational institutions, including the Bapuji Institute of Engineering & Technology and numerous professional institutions of higher education. He is also the owner of the Shamanur Group, a collection of industries whose main businesses are sugar and distilleries. The 1970 Kannada film Boregowda Bangalorige Banda, which he co-produced, was released.
