With the Congress party winning the Karnataka Assembly elections in a decisive manner, Netizens and political analysts are now making speculations on how opposition political parties might approach the 2024 elections.
Freebies are going to form the dominant narrative. "In Karnataka, freebies were promised by the Congress party like anything. This attracted the rural poor. They gravitated towards the Congress in a big way," an analyst said, adding that Rahul Gandhi will learn from his Karnataka party leadership to implement the same on a national scale.
However, there is a caveat. "Rahul promised freebies ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. That didn't help. Everything depends on whether the voters trust a party to deliver on its promises," a commentator said.
Caste is another factor that will be milked by Opposition parties in a pronounced manner. "In States like Bihar and Maharashtra, there is a lot of scope to mobilize voters on the basis of caste in order to scare the BJP. In Uttar Pradesh, though, that might not work. That's because Yogi Adityanath is a popular leader there. Wherever BJP has no popular leader at the State level, opposition parties can succeed by playing the caste card," an analyst said.
