Up to 19 Opposition parties released a united statement on Wednesday announcing that they would not be attending the May 28 opening of the new Parliament building since Prime Minister Narendra Modi, not President Droupadi Murmu, would be doing so.
To the surprise of the general public, the YSRCP and BRS, who are opposed to the BJP, are not on the list of parties that have agreed not to attend the official ceremony.
According to reports, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the chief minister of AP, would release an official letter on the matter soon. It is unclear if Jagan will attend the inaugural event, but we have also heard that he would be in Delhi on May 26 and 27 to attend NITI Aayog meetings. Many believe that he would attend the ceremony given the sanction of significant funding for AP of Rs. 10460 crore.
The BRS party, meanwhile, stayed mum on the subject. According to sources, if the President or the speaker inaugurates the event, a representative of BRS from TS would attend instead of the CM.
