Recently, a Twitter handle with nearly two lakh followers posted a pic of a woman kissing India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The post was intended to project Nehru as a womanizer. At the time of writing, the post garnered nearly 1.8 million views.
Who is the woman in the pic? It has been believed by many that the woman in the pic was some woman with whom Nehru shared a platonic/romantic relationship. The fact is that the woman is his niece, Nayantara Sehgal.
Without knowing the truth about the familial relationship, many Netizens have seen the pic through a perverted lens.
"The post by a Twitter handle named 'The Jaipur Dialogues' is absolutely in poor taste. It is pathetic to attribute lust to an affectionate kiss by a loving family member. The post hasn't been removed even after many Netizens have called out the admin for resorting to cheap propaganda," a commentator said.
For many years, it has been propagated on WhatsApp that the woman seen kissing Nehru is a Britisher. The piece of fake news has been called out by a national daily and many fact-checkers thus far.
