Addressing a public rally in the poll-bound Karnataka, Narendra Modi on Sunday remarked that the Congress party ridiculed him when he said a couple of years ago that turmeric is an immunity booster. "They didn't insult me but turmeric farmers," the Prime Minister declared in an attempt to woo farmers to vote for his party.
Critics have since described Modi's claim that turmeric boosts immunity as pseudo-scientific. "Turmeric is not an immune booster. Vaccines are the only proven immune boosters your body needs. Your immune system only needs you to lead a healthy lifestyle - including proper sleep, exercise and a healthy diet. Anyone who claims otherwise is a fraud and deserves to be made fun of," wrote Dr. Varun C.
"Turmeric is not an immune booster. And while on the topic, let me say that high levels of immunity are not necessarily protective. Many people have died of 'high immunity'. The pulmonary Cytokine Storm of Covid that kills is due to hyperactivation of the immune system," wrote Dr. Jaison Philip.
On the political front, Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao reminded that the Centre is yet to set up a Turmeric Board. "Turmeric Farmers will teach a fitting lesson to Modi Govt for shameful betrayal," the TRS leader wrote.
